Admissions

Credit Load Requirement

International students are required by U.S. Immigration law to carry a full course of study. Full-time means a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester for undergraduate students and 9 credit hours per semester for graduate students. Failure to comply will result in termination of registration.

International Studen Responsibilities

Settling Costs

International students coming directly from their home countries should have with them no less than $800 (single student) or $1000 (married student with family) upon arrival to cover various settling costs. This may include an apartment deposit and possible motel and food costs prior to the dates the College room/food contracts or off-campus housing becomes available.

Transfer of Funds

There are often difficulties in transferring funds from foreign countries to the United States. Students should become thoroughly familiar with their government’s regulations on exchanging and forwarding money. It is important that sufficient funds are available at the beginning of each semester, as tuition and other instructional fees are due at this time.

Housing

Students who desire College housing (residence halls or CSC apartment housing) should contact the Housing Office, Chadron State College, Chadron, NE 69337. Inquiries should be made as early as possible. Often students must stay in a local motel if off-campus housing cannot be obtained immediately.

How to Get to Chadron

Depending upon the port of entry, most students fly into Denver, Colorado, after arriving in the United States. Commuter flights on a limited basis are available from Denver to Chadron via Scottsbluff, Nebraska. For information about international flights and flights from Denver to Chadron click here.

Buses also travel to Chadron from many different cities. Travel agents may be able to help new students locate transportation to Chadron.

Health Insurance

Chadron State College Requirement

Contrary to what is true in many other countries, medical care in the United States is not free, and in fact, may be quite expensive.  Health insurance protects you from having to pay large medical bills that can arise even from simple medical procedures. Getting insurance for dependents that come with you also is advisable. See page nine of the International Student Application.

While enrolled at CSC, both undergraduate and graduate international students are required to acquire and maintain health and accident insurance that meets criteria set by Chadron State College. You will be required to provide written evidence (in English) of appropriate accident and health insurance upon registration and again each year (beginning of the fall semester) while enrolled at CSC. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO REGISTER WITHOUT PROOF OF ADEQUATE HEALTH COVERAGE.

Insurance certification

  • If you already have adequate insurance, simply provide the CSC International Student Service Counselor with documentation (copy of the policy pages showing specific coverage and effective dates in English). Once a year (prior to fall semester enrollment), for as long as you are enrolled at CSC, you are required to provide written evidence (in English) of continuing insurance coverage.
  • If you do not have the required coverage, the College will enroll you in a plan that meets CSC minimum requirements. The College will charge you for the cost of the insurance. Policy details are available from the International Student Counselor.

International Students Health Insurance Policy Criteria

  • The policy is valid throughout the entire academic year and must include periods of study, work, training, and vacation.
  • The medical benefit is at least $50,000 U.S. dollars per illness or injury and the co-payment does not exceed 25%
  • The repatriation benefit is at least $7,500 U.S. dollars
  • The medical evacuation benefit is at least $10,000 U.S. dollars
  • The deductible does not exceed $500 U.S. dollars per illness or injury
