The College has outstanding instructional facilities and resources to support the teacher preparation program. Hildreth Hall, the location of the Education Department, houses a state-of-the-art technology instructional-laboratory and three "smart" multi-mediated classrooms. In addition, faculty have access to a multimedia cart for electronic presentations, electronic smart-board, and quality printing resources.
Our adjacent building, Miller Hall, is also used to deliver many of the unit's education courses, at both the initial and advanced levels. This facility, renovated and reopened in 1999, provides classroom facilities that incorporate multimedia and distance learning technologies to meet the demands of the ever-changing CSC instructional environment. Two of the classrooms are designed for continual Interactive Distance Learning/Interactive Television (IDL/ITV) use-- one utilizes T-1 technology, and the other has POD fiber-optics. Also included in Miller Hall is another computer-instructional laboratory with 16 stations (Mac and PC formats). A testing center for proficiency testing, assessment testing, graduate record exam testing, and other campus applications is also included.
All faculty have suitable desk-top computer resources within their offices (none older than 4 years) to meet individual professional needs, and access to multiple high-end technology facilities for the delivery of instruction. The Hildreth Hall Technology Lab/Instructional classroom maintains 24 workstations with both Mac and PC platforms. All stations are fully networked and Internet connected. This classroom-lab includes a teaching station with digital projection, and instructional use of an interactive Smart Board. Software is monitored for contemporary application of programs and is updated regularly. All technology courses (EDUC 224) are delivered in this lab/classroom environment.
Currently, Hildreth and Miller Halls are fully networked, and wireless access is anticipated in the near future, with the CSC Library and Student Center currently utilizing a wireless format. Multi-mediated "smart" classrooms are used by all unit faculty as appropriate to the content they are delivering.
Other College buildings, housing programs and courses are of the highest quality. Extensive renovation and refurbishments have occurred over the last few years. The institution's long-range master plan, including the facility recommendations, are identified in the 2001 Campus Master Plan, Part II: Analysis & Recommendations, p. 9-13 (in document center).
Elementary Education program coursework is also offered at our regional education centers in Scottsbluff and North Platte, Nebraska. Each of these centers maintains a multi-mediated classroom facility, including computer laboratory space for candidates, all under the direction of a CSC Regional Site Coordinator. CSC facilities are housed within the local community college facility in each location, giving candidates access to library, eating, recreational, study and lounge facilities. Chadron State College operates these regional learning centers through collaborative agreements with each respective community college district.
The P-12 physical facilities and technologies for use by initial and advanced teacher candidates are excellent. Among the school districts comprising the CSC operational service region (Western Nebraska, SW South Dakota, Eastern Wyoming, NE Colorado), there are multiple physical plants, serving a variety of constituency groups. For a breakdown of P-12 schools utilized as field experience sites, see Table 3.1: Demographic Profile of Field Experience Sites. The diversity of field placements provides candidates the opportunity to practice their skills in a fairly wide variety of physical facilities with an equally wide range of technologies for instructional support, within diverse educational settings.
