The Department of Counseling, Psychology and Social Work consists of three different programs. Two of these programs, Psychology and Social Work, are undergraduate programs offering Bachelor's Degrees. These programs differ in their emphasis. Psychology focuses on the scientific study of the mind and of behavior and the application of this study. Social Work focuses more on the scientific study of individual and group behaviors in the social environments, and direct application to assisting people in improving their lives and in reaching their life goals.
The Counseling Program offers two separate graduate programs: one in Community Counseling and one in School Counseling. The Community Counseling program prepares students to practice in the community as private practice therapists or counselors in agencies. The School Counseling program is designed for students whose goal is to become a school counselor at the elementary or secondary level.
