The Counseling curriculum at Chadron State College offers Master’s level training in Community Counseling or School Counseling. Students can prepare to work professionally in various public and private counseling agencies, or within elementary or secondary school settings. The curricula in Community Counseling and School Counseling are designed to provide experiences that will allow students to seek licensure in Counseling and certification in School Counseling, respectively.

All students are required to attend a Counseling Orientation interview prior to completing the first 9 hours of their counseling program. The Orientation Interview is offered each semester in both North Platte and Chadron Nebraska. The following dates and times have been scheduled:

Chadron State College, Miller Hall, Suite 222, Chadron, NE:

July 17, 2013: 1-4 pm MST
October 28, 2013: 9-12 pm MST
March 31, 2014: 9-12 pm MST
July 16, 2014: 1-4 pm MST

Mid-Plains Community College, North Platte, NE:

September 26, 2013: 5-8 pm CST
February 27, 2014: 5-8 pm CST

Program Missions

Community Counseling

The mission of the Community Counseling program of the Counseling, Psychology and Social Work department at Chadron State College is to prepare quality professionals to pursue careers as community counselors in various public and private agencies and systems.

School Counseling

The mission of the School Counseling program of the Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work department of Chadron State College is to prepare quality professionals to be endorsed as school counselors who will meet the needs of students and educational settings of tomorrow.

Program Accreditations

The Community Counseling program is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). This program provides the required curriculum to obtain a counseling license in the state of Nebraska and Wyoming.

The School Counseling program is accredited by both the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Entrance Process

Apply through the CSC Graduate Office for Graduate Studies. Declare which program you wish to focus on: Community Counseling or School Counseling.
Attend an Orientation Interview. There are two dates each semester; one in North Platte and one in Chadron, as well as one in the summer in Chadron. See calendar below or contact Marsha Schrader, mschrader@csc.edu or 308-432-6035, for dates.
Visit with your assigned advisor for assistance in setting up classes.
