Tips for Publicizing CSC Events

Submit an event for the calendar on the CSC home page at least two weeks in advance of the event by making a reservation with Shellie Johns or Melody Carnahan in Conferencing at 308-432-6380. Provide them with all the details (email addresses, phone numbers, links to related Web pages, videos or photos, etc.) that you would like to appear when a viewer clicks your calendar item. Once all this info is in the Trumba system, Tena Cook can select your item to make it appear on the home page.

Tena Cook will post information provided in advance by the event organizer(s) on the CSC Facebook and Twitter accounts. These posts are often shared or retweeted by other pages. Please include .jpgs of posters for social media. Send Tena your selfie and cell phone photos of events in progress or afterward for additional social media publicity.

A new Activity Guidebook App is available. To enter your event, go to this online form:

College Relations can assist with purchasing advertising or printing brochures, postcards or posters if the event is considered a recruiting effort.

The news section of the CSC home page is reserved for current news. If an advance story about your event is desired, please provide Tena Cook with a .jpg photo and all possible contact information for your guest speaker plus the logo of the organization, if available. Please provide phone numbers and email addresses of students and/or faculty who could provide quotes about the event.

Post “save the date” messages, event deadlines and reminders on your club or organization Facebook page.

Please note, when creating new social media accounts, it is best to use “CSC,” “Chadron State” or “Chadron State College” somewhere in the title of the new page to help others find it in their search results.

Current CSC students involved with your event could be encouraged to help distribute information via their personal social media accounts.

Consider sending an event organizer to CAB and Senate meetings to promote your event.

The Conferencing Office, Shellie Johns is the contact for the lighted sign by M-Hall. Criteria for this sign: the event must be for a campus-wide audience. She is also the contact for the Student Center lighted sign.

To have you message placed on lighted signs in buildings across campus, contact each building manager.

The Chadron State Up-to-Date newsletter is distributed weekly during the academic year to faculty, staff, students and alumni. Your event may appear in the announcements section, if space allows, and if the audience is broad enough. Please send your information to Tena Cook a week in advance.

Contact to have a promotional item about your event placed on the Sakai login page and student workspace. Please send the required wording (including date, time, and place) with a photo or relevant image. You may also send a completed graphic sized to 555px by 348px in .JPG or .PNG format. Also provide the date the ad should go live as well as the expiration date. In most cases, the ad will be posted within 1-3 days of the request. All images must be copyright-free, or the correct permissions must be obtained and sent with your request. The Teaching and Learning Center can also assist with finding non-attribution and copyright-free stock images, as needed.

Fine arts and performing arts events can reach a statewide audience by being entered on Nebraska Public radio’s online calendar. Categories exist for 1) Film, theatre and dance; 2) Music, books and lectures; and 3) Art and museum exhibits.

College Relations can assist event organizers with publicity on the two local radio stations. With a month’s advance notice of major events, your ad copy can be placed into one or both rotations. Since this process is fairly time-consuming, it cannot be done on short notice or for minor events.

KCSR 610 AM ( gives CSC one hour each Friday from 8 to 9 a.m. to promote events on the Sound Off program. Tena Cook coordinates this calendar during the academic year. Only two groups/events may be guests on the same day. A guest can return to promote his/her event twice. KBPY FM, across the hall, allows five minutes to promote the same program while guests are at the studio. Guests are expected to stay to and complete this program, as well. Space can be purchased on the community events calendar or free announcements can also be provided for some events.

The Chadron Record ad deadline is Monday at noon for the weekly Wednesday newspaper. Please contact them for deadlines in special editions and sections. Contact the staff of the CSC student newspaper, “The Eagle,” with information or to purchase their advertising.

The Chadron Federal Credit Union offers free space on their lighted sign by the post office for campus events.
