Cardinal Key National Honor Society is a national organization for women students of at least Junior status in American colleges and universities who are leaders in the college and community and are deemed potential leaders in the future.

While Cardinal Key is an honor society, it is also a service organization. Membership carries a responsibility to attend mandatory meetings twice a month and provide services in a variety of activities for the campus and the community.

By-laws regarding the conduct of local chapters and requirements of membership are set by the national organization. Active membership is limited to 25 JUNIOR or SENIOR students who fulfill the following requirements:

  • Completion of the sophomore year by next fall
  • Full-time student status with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above at time of application
  • Graduation no sooner than the next December after applying to Cardinal Key
  • Participation open to students attending on-campus classes and student must be able to attend on-campus meetings and participate in CK Chadron-based community service projects.
  • A leader in good character, prominence and personality in extracurricular activities
  • Involvement in at least one campus organizations recognized by the Student Senate
  • Involvement in campus and/or community activities
  • Must be available for active participation in all Cardinal Key meetings and activities-inactive status is granted to members who are student teaching - those graduating the following December and also student teaching in the fall are not eligible to apply.

All female students who believe they meet these requirements are invited to apply for membership. Applications are rated by an impartial numerical scoring system for the above requirements. Next CK members rank the applications by total points, and membership is awarded to the top candidates up to the limit of 25 total members.
