Track & Field

Head Coach Ryan Baily

2011 - Ryan Baily has been a steadying hand for the Eagles' track and field program since he was hired in May of 2009. In just two years under Baily's tutelage, the Eagles have qualified a record number of athletes for the national meet and had the school's first-ever top 10 finish.

In addition, the Eagles have finished second in the conference three times, both indoors and outdoors. Following both the indoor and outdoor seasons, Baily was named the conference's women's coach of the year - the fourth such time he's been honored by the RMAC.

In 2011, CSC had 12 All-Americans, a school record, and a national champion when Brad Gamble set the meet record in the heptahtlon indoors.

Baily led the men's track and field team to a second-place finish indoors and a third place outdoors in 2010. The second place finish was the highest ever for the Chadron State men's team.

He also coached 10 RMAC champions (indoors and outdoors) and the Eagles set eight school records.

Baily is a native of Scottsbluff and a graduate of Chadron State, where he competed four years both indoors and outdoors in track and field.

“To have an opportunity to coach at my alma mater is very special and it’s close to family," he said. "The community and school support from Chadron is extraordinary and I’m excited to get to work.”

Baily, a Chadron State graduate and former track athlete, helped turn Western State into one of the premier programs in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Beginning in 2005, Western State has had nearly 30 All-Americans and three national champions. Baily’s teams have had plenty of success, too. The Western State women have placed third or better in four RMAC Championships, and the Western State men’s team won the 2008 indoor title and claimed four runner-up finishes since 2007.

Baily is a four-time RMAC Coach of the Year and he was also the North Central Regional Coach of the Year in 2008.

Baily was an outstanding middle distance runner at Scottsbluff High School. He graduated from Chadron State in 2003 and was the RMAC champion in the decathlon in 2001. He was also all-conference in 2000 and 2003.

Before coaching at Western State, Baily worked as a graduate assistant at Cumberland College in Willamsburg, Ky., where he received a master’s degree in special education.

Baily and his wife, Janel, have a daughter, Jayden and, a son,Trenton.
