Admissions Ambassador - Emily

Emily Vanis Name: Emily Vanis

Major: Pre-Dentistry

Home Town: Elgin, Neb.

High School: Elgin Public High School

What attracted you to your major? I have always had a huge interest in the health professions fields. I really enjoy working with and helping people. I chose dentistry because I love learning about it and seeing all the new technology that is used today that can completely change a person's smile.

What are you involved in on campus? Besides being an Admissions Ambassador, I am involved in the Health Professions Club, Sports Medicine Club, Residence Life Association and I am on the Andrews Hall Judicial Council.

What is your favorite spot on campus? My favorite spot is the gross anatomy lab. This is one of the things that helped me make my decision to come to Chadron. It is great to have the opportunity to work with the four donor bodies. They are a great tool for learning in many different professions and also a great tool in preparing students for professional school.

What is your favorite class and why? So far my favorite class would have to be nutrition. The teacher did a great job of making the subject matter interesting. It was also very helpful learning how nutrition is not only important in our lives now, but how the nutrition we choose today will have a huge impact on how healthy we will be in the future.

What do you do in your free time? In my free time, I like to spend time with my friends, play intramurals or any pick up games, talk to my family at home or go shopping! There are also many different programs offered on campus that are fun to get involved with, which is a great way to meet people.

Why did you choose Chadron State College? I originally came to Chadron because I was accepted to the Rural Health Opportunities Program nursing program. After my sophomore year, I decided to change to dentistry and I stayed at Chadron because it is one of the best pre-professional schools in Nebraska. The small class sizes provide a great learning environment and the friendly people give the campus a welcoming atmosphere.
