Admissions Ambassador - Ryan

Ryan Hieb Name: Ryan Hieb

Major: Justice Studies

Home Town: Newcastle, Wyo.

High School: Newcastle High School

What attracted you to your major? I first became interested in the criminal justice field shortly after I began to drive. I was stopped one night for speeding and that was the start of a long friendship between me and the officer that pulled me over. I participated in several ride-alongs with the local police department and ended up interning for the police department during my senior year in high school. This internship was very helpful in directing me to the Justice Studies major because it allowed me to have a great deal of insight into the many aspects of the criminal justice system.

What are you involved in on campus? Since I am a transfer student and new to campus this year I am not fully aware of all the campus activities that are available to the students. I am already a member of the Criminal Justice Club on campus and I am sure I will take part in intramural sports throughout the year.

What is your favorite spot on campus? My favorite spot on campus would be the Student Center. The Student Center is where a lot of campus activities happen and it's a great place to hang out with friends and meet new people.

What is your favorite class and why? My favorite class this semester is criminology. This class is about how the mind affects our behavior. It is a very interesting class and so far I have learned a lot from it. Dr. Wada is a very good teacher who has a lot of energy and makes the classes relaxed, fun and interesting.

What do you do in your free time? In my free time I enjoy anything with the outdoors, such as hiking, fishing, camping and rock climbing along with my new favorite activity, scuba diving.

Why did you choose Chadron State College? I chose to transfer to CSC from Casper Community College in Wyoming. I already knew some students that had gone to school here and heard a lot of positive things about the campus and the criminal justice program. My visit to CSC helped make my decision even easier; the staff that I met with was extremely helpful and wanted to do everything they could to make the transfer easy. I wanted to transfer to a smaller four-year college in order to maintain a closer working relationship with my instructors, and CSC was able to offer everything that I was looking for.
